Ninnekah OHCE plans sales

The Ninnekah OHCE met at the local senior center at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 13. President Shirley Burns called the meeting to order; Jessie Bennett gave the devotional. Joy Bennett presented the lesson “Living With Diabetes” to the members and distributed materials. Diabetes nationwide is spreading at an alarming rate and members were cautioned to be aware of symptoms for selves, friends and family, and urged them to be tested. Roll call was answered to “Have you had your blood sugar checked lately?” by seven members. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. The treasurer’s report was given including a rebate on cookbooks and paying for scholarships. The report was approved.

The group decided to do a full bake and garage sale on Oct. 3-4, including a large amount of miscellaneous items donated by member Irene Clements as she moved away. Members brought packages of pencils and paper and Joy Bennett, chairman of the project, delivered them to the elementary school that morning, which happened to be the first day of school.

Barbara (Max) Thomas read the monthly health newsletter stressing exercise, working at the county fair, and the Dimes for Water project. The group reviewed their projects for the fair, baking requests, and work schedule. The next meeting of the Ninnekah OHCE will be Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 9 a.m. at the Senior Center, with Shirley Burns as lesson leader for the timely lesson, “Living on a Shoe String” and Barbara (Mike) Thomas as hostess. Guests are always welcome. The meeting was adjourned.
