Members of the MacDowell Music Club of Chickasha and their guests enjoyed an afternoon of beautiful music in the USAO Alumni Chapel on Feb. 7, 2010.
Dr. Stephen Weber, Professor of Music at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, introduced and told a little about each of the six students performing at the Valentine’s Scholarship Reception.
USAO students who shared musical talents were Amanda Whitchard, a Junior Drama Major, who sang ‘Your Daddy’s Son’ from Ragtime by Stephen Flaherty; Katelin Thomson, a Junior Music Performance Major, who played ‘Intermezzo’ from Cavalleria Rusticana by Pietro Mascangni on the clarinet; and Adam Bryant, a Sophomore Music Major whose major instrument is the guitar, who played ‘Rondo alla turca’ from Sonata in a minor by W. A. Mozart on the piano.
Casey Coppedge, a Junior Music Education Major, played ‘Quando men vo’ from La Boheme by Giacomo Puccini on the trumpet, and Joy James, a Freshman whose major instrument is the guitar, played Ovation No. 1 by Robert Vandall on the piano.
The final performer for the reception was Alex McCabe, a tenor and Senior Music Major, who sang ‘The Worship of God in Nature’ by Ludwig van Beethoven. Mr. McCabe is the Minister of Music at the First Baptist Church in Amber, OK. He was honored earlier this year by being selected as MacDowell Music Club’s USAO Scholarship Recipient for 2009-10.
Refreshments and social time followed the program.
The next celebration of the MacDowell Music Club will be promoting ‘National Music Week’ during May 2-9, 2010. The theme for this year is ‘Music: A Key to the Future’.
The MacDowell Music Club of Chickasha is a member of the National Federation of Music Clubs and the Oklahoma Federation of Music Clubs.
The local music Club will be celebrating its 100th birthday next year as it was organized in 1911. It was federated with the National Federation of Music Clubs in 1912.
