Chickasha junior Kyle Farley, this upcoming season’s top-ranked 5A heavyweight, won his weight class championship Wednesday at John Smith’s Oklahoma State University Team Wrestling Camp. The junior went undefeated in eight dual matches throughout the week-long camp and beat Scott Inskeep, the top-ranked heavyweight in Texas, 2-1 in overtime in the camp tournament final.
Farley was a regional runner-up and a 2009 state placer last season as a sophomore. He finished at 35-7 in a loaded senior-laden weight class and was named the Chicks’ Co-Outstanding Wrestler of the Year with teammate and fellow state placer Colton Hill.
The youngster blossomed quickly after a slow start and had a banner season, pulling off upset after upset as he gained experience and confidence. Duncan senior Gabe McGee, a state runner-up in 2008, was the only wrestler Farley had problems with, losing to him twice at the Deer Creek Regional then again at the state tournament in the Consolation final. All three losses, however, were by one mere point and the two regional matches went to overtime – one double and one triple.
Farley will be one of many current and former Fightin’ Chick wrestlers helping out at CHS wrestling coach Chad Randle’s “lock-in” camp Aug. 2.
