Chickasha football families attend pre-season picnic

The Touchdown Club’s annual team picnic was held at Shannon Springs Park Saturday following the morning physicals.

Head coach Rick VanCleave welcomed the football families, introduced the coaching staff and spoke about the upcoming season before everyone enjoyed some grilled burgers, hot dogs and fixin’s.

The staff for the high school will remain unchanged except for the addition of Derick Myers, who will replace veteran defensive coordinator and linebacker coach Zach Gray. Myers comes over from Class A Empire, where he spent two years after a long tenure at Comanche.

Jerry Don Bray will again coach the defensive line, wide receivers and specialty teams and Tanner Roof will coach the quarterbacks. Allen Coley will coach the tight ends and special teams and assist with the defensive line and Kevin Witt will coach the offensive line and assist with the defensive line. Mike Higgins will coach the running backs and Brock VanCleave will coach the secondary and assist with the wide receivers. Zach Hale will be back upstairs in the pressbox as the team’s spotter.

For the junior high, Coley will head coach the seventh-grade Chicks with Roof and Chad Randle assisting, Bray will coach the eighth grade with Witt and Brad Perry assisting and Higgins will coach the freshmen with Myers and Hale assisting.

Both VanCleaves will also work with the first-year sixth graders independently. The coach is working on setting up some sixth-grade games with some of the other schools who have similar programs in addition to their participating with the seventh-graders.

FLAGS GOING FAST

The Chickasha support flags are almost gone. If you’d like one, there are just a dozen left from the initial order. They are $25.00 each and are available by contacting Touchdown Club president Coby Morris at 224-5542.

FINAL PHYSICALS SET

Students must report to Five Oaks Medical Center at 8 a.m. on Saturday, August 15. No one will be permitted to participate inany athletic activities without a physical on file.
