Chicks wrap up summer regular season

CHICKASHA —

The Chickasha High School volleyball team ended regular season summer league play Monday, with the A squad going winless and the B squad winning one out of three matches.

Chickasha A finished the regular summer league with a 3-8 record.

The Chickasha B squad finished the summer season 1-8.

Chickasha A played El Reno and Community Christian, but was unable to win a game in either of the matches.

Community Christian beat Chickasha 10-25 in the first game and 16-25 in the second game to secure the match victory.

The Lady Chicks played tough against El Reno in the first match. In game one, Chickasha jumped out to a quick lead, scoring the first five points.

El Reno stopped the bleeding and pulled the game to 7-5, and after that the two teams changed the lead a number of times.

The Lady Indians threatened to pull away, going up 15-11, but Chickasha got things back under control. Eventually, the game was tied at 24 each.

The Chicks took the lead 25-24, but El Reno responded with two straight side out points to take a 26-25 lead, barely returning a Chickasha serve and winning the rally.

The two squads continued to exchange points, and El Reno took a 27-26 lead. Coach Nancy Waters took a timeout to discuss the critical upcoming point and to regroup the team.

El Reno served, and won the game with the ace as Chickasha was unable to return the serve. The Lady Indians won 28-26.

The second game wasn't as close. Although Chickasha had an early lead and had the game tied at 11-11, El Reno began to pull away after that, eventually winning 25-18 to take the match.

The Chickasha B team easily handled Elgin's B team, winning 25-14 and 25-9 to earn the team's only match victory of the day.

In the B team's other two matches, El Reno took a 14-25 and 12-25 match win, followed by Lawton Mac defeating the Lady Chicks 10-25 and 13-25.

The Chickasha High School summer league is scheduled to conclude Thursday with the summer tournament. Games are set to begin at 9 a.m.
