USAO Baseball: Drovers fall to No. 8 Bison

CHICKASHA —

The Drovers put up four solid runs in Thursday afternoon’s Senior Day game, but it proved not enough to top the No. 8 Oklahoma Baptist Bison.

The Drovers struggled to find rhythm in the first half of the game, giving up five quick runs. It wasn’t until the bottom of the sixth when the Drovers got on the board.

Lead off batter Romus Cezar singled to right center, which quickly followed with a scoring double from Jared Coon. Coon then scored off a dropped ball by the Bison right fielder. The third run of the inning came in when first baseman Zach Gonzalez doubled to left center to score Brandon Jewett, who’d reached base on the previous error.

With a 5-3 score going into the eighth, both teams scored one more. In the bottom of the eight inning, Austin Ardrey, who was running for Jewett, scored off an RBI single by Brian Vigo. The game ended with a final score of 6-4.

The Drovers are 26-18 overall and 16-12 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. They will finish the series Saturday in Shawnee with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.

It was Senior Day at Bill Smith Ballpark and the Drovers honored their seven seniors: Cezar, Newt Compton, Blake Taylor, Jewett, Nolan Crowdus, Kevin Schultz and Kyle Moralez.
