BLOG: Sooners on track for NCAA Tournament bid

NORMAN, Okla. — The Oklahoma men’s basketball team has the “signature win” it needs to make it to the NCAA Tournament.

The Sooners beat Kansas, 72-66, in Norman on Saturday, and even though Kansas seems to be in a free-fall recently, the Jayhawks were still ranked No. 5 at the time.

At 15-7 (6-4 Big 12) with eight games left in the regular season, Lon Kruger’s team is most likely in control of whether it will be invited to the big dance.

The Sooners’ remaining games include two against TCU, two against Texas Tech, and games against Baylor, Iowa State, Oklahoma State and Texas.

All those games are winnable for the Sooners, but there are no guarantees. OU had a winnable game on Feb. 4 at Iowa State, and lost by 19 points.

OU has already beaten Baylor, Texas Tech, Texas and West Virginia this year, and lost to Oklahoma State by nine at home in mid-January.

This season has been a step in the right direction for the Oklahoma basketball program, regardless of whether OU makes the NCAA Tournament or not, but it would certainly be a disappointment if the Sooners let this opportunity to get on the national stage slip away in the final stretch of the year.
