Former Fightin’ Chick pitcher Chris Muchmore will be World Series-bound in his freshman year of college ball.
Connors State College (Warner, Okla.) hosted and won the NJCAA Southern Central District tournament on Saturday and will play in the Division I Juco World Series in Grand Junction, CO next week.
The Cowboys (48-17) open next Saturday, May 24 against the defending national champion Chipola Indians (44-12-1) from Winter Haven, FL, the Gulf District champions, in the double-elimination tournament.
Connors, the Region 2 champions, beat Delgado Community College (LA) 15-8 in the championship game of the district tournament at Bill Thompson Field to earn a berth in next week’s national tournament. The Cowboys are coached by Perry Keith, a 23-year veteran who was recently named the Conference Coach of the Year.
Muchmore, a freshman this year, helped guide Chickasha to back-to-back state appearances during his high school career.
