CHICKASHA – Four players scored in double figures as the University of Science and Arts ran past St. Gregory’s 72-38 Saturday night inside the USAO Fieldhouse. Led by 17 points from Debora Dourado in her first start of the season, USAO improved to 8-4 on the season and 2-2 in league play.
Dourado’s 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting led all scorers and matches her career high set at Midland Lutheran earlier in the season, but the Drover defense made a statement as well. USAO held SGU to only 13 field goals for the game and forced 24 turnovers.
Juliana Leite hit four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points. Ivaney Marquez scored only when needed shooting 3-for-5 from the 3-point land, pulling down seven rebounds and dishing out eight assists. Charite Lewis scored in double figures for the 12th time this season. She finished with 12 points and seven rebounds.
Defense leads men to win
Holding St. Gregory’s to only 15 second-half points helped the University of Science and Arts’ men to a 59-41 win Saturday inside the USAO Fieldhouse.
Tim Nelson led the team with 16 points as USAO improved to 6-4 overall and 3-1 in league play. The Drovers now sit in a three-way tie for second place with Oklahoma Baptist and Oklahoma Christian.
USAO took a 31-26 lead into halftime despite hitting only 2-of-12 from the 3-point line. SGU hit 45.8 percent from the field in the first half after scoring 96 points in a win over East Central in their last game, but the Cavs could only manage seven field goals in the second half.
