Fightin' Chicks baseball goes 2-1 at 5A Shootout

The Chickasha High School baseball team finished up at the 5A Shootout tournament in McAlester with a loss to Durant High School, but ended up with a winning record.

The Fightin' Chicks lost 11-4 on Thursday evening to the No. 6 Durant Lions, but they won their first two games.

Earlier on Thursday, Chickasha blew out No. 21 Collinsville 21-9, in a game that featured huge offensive games by several Chicks.

John Mitchell went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs. Lane Smith went 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBIs.

Landon Thomas went 2-for-5 with six RBIs, three of which came on a home run.

Chickasha started the tournament on Wednesday, when it got a win over No. 5 McAlester, 13-9.

The game against Claremore, which was scheduled for Friday morning, was rained out.

The Fightin' Chicks are now 18-8 this season, and ranked as the No. 9 team in the state after having won ten of their last eleven games.

There are five games remaining in the regular season for Chickasha, starting 4:30 p.m. Monday with a home game against Lawton MacArthur. The Chicks play Lawton Mac in Lawton on Tuesday.
