Fightin’ Chick football notes and dates
CHS head coach Rick VanCleave expects to “Rebuild the Tradition” in his second year at the helm of the Fightin’ Chick football program. That will be the theme for the upcoming season as the staff goes into the fall with a more mature and experienced team.
This year, sixth-graders will be allowed to participate in middle school athletics, including football.
With the start of formal practices around the corner, the following dates are already set.
Physicals/picnic
Athletic physicals will be given this Saturday, August 1, starting at 8 a.m. at Five Oaks Medical Center. The Touchdown Club will then host their annual picnic for players and their families at Shannon Springs Park at 12:30. All players, grades 6-12, must have a physical on file to participate.
Equipment

Freshman and high school players will check out equipment on Thursday, August 6, at the field house at 6:30 p.m.
Middle-schoolers (grades 6-8) will check out their equipment on their first day of practice.
First day
of practice
The first formal practice for grades 9-12 will be will be held on Tuesday, August 11, following the teachers’ meetings.
The coach expects a start time of 3:30 or 4 p.m. at this point.
Middle school players (grades 6-8) will meet after the first day of school on Wednesday, August 12.
Photo/Media Day
Team and individual pictures for all players will be taken on Saturday, August 15, at Memorial Stadium. Photos for players in grades 9-12 will start at 5:30 with grades 6-8 following at approximately 6:30. This year the staff is adding a “Meet the Chicks” program following pictures, introducing the players and having an inter-squad scrimmage at approximately 7:30. Players need to check in with their coaches at least 15 minutes before the scheduled photo time and parents and fans are invited to attend.
New “support flags” available
The Touchdown Club has 100 new “CHS Supporter” flags available for $25.00 per year. Individuals and businesses can display these flags year-round to support all Chickasha athletic teams and programs.
Old flags can be traded in for these new ones.
