Two Chickasha golfers qualify for state tournament

LAWTON —

The Chickasha High School golf team competed at the regional tournament at Fort Sill Golf Course in Lawton on Monday, and earned to state qualifiers.

Freshman Cody Burrows shot 75 and 77, and was the top individual taken for state. The top six teams qualify for state, as well as the top six individuals that are not on a qualifying team.

Chickasha finished ninth as a team.

Senior Daniel Bates shot 79 and 79, and was the No. 4 individual to qualify for state.

"After his 79 on the first 18, he struggled on his next nine holes, posting a 42," head coach Chad Randle said. "But he rallied to post a one-over 37 on his last nine to qualify.'

Andrew Ross shot his season best, 85, then 90. Tim Still shot 94 and 90 in his two rounds on the day.

The state tournament is May 7-8 at Chickasaw Point, a course Randle said will challenge his players more than Fort Sill, with thicker tree lines that punish erratic drives.
