CHICKASHA —
On the second day of the Ninnekah Fast-Pitch Tournament at the Chickasha Sports Complex, Rush Springs got a win ovr Elmore City-Pernell.
The Lady Redskins beat Elmore City 2-1, resisting a late charge by their opponent in the fourth inning.
Rush Springs scored one run in the first inning, when catcher Lauren Zalewski made it home on a pass ball by the Lady Badgers.
In the third innings, Kaylin Rennaker reached base on a walk and ended up scoring on an RBI groundout by Zalewski.
The Lady Redskins ended up neediing that run, as the Lady Badgers scored one run in the fourth inning but left two runners on base in the inning.
Renee Leonard pitched for Rush Springs, allowing one run on four hits with two strikeouts, which came on the first two batters of the game.
Top Performers
Lauren Zalewski had a hand in both of Rush Springs' runs. She scored the first on a pass ball, and drove in the second with a short ground ball. She was 1-for-2 with a triple and an RBI.
Renee Leonard pitched a strong game, helping her team to a win despite the offense not putting up many runs.
Honorable mention to Katie Jones, who sat out the game with an ankle injury, but led the team cheering, several times inadvertently jumping up on her tweaked ankle in excitement for her teammates. Jones said she has won "Most Spirited" at her school in the past for her enthusiasm.
Key Play
With the game in the balance, Rush Springs came up with a crucial defensive stop.
In the fourth inning, Elmore City-Pernell had just scored it's first run of the game. With two outs and runners on first and third, The Lady Redskins pulled off a quick 6-3 play, with Lauren Jordan throwing out the runner to first baseman Audrey Campbell.
The Ninnekah Fast-Pitch Tournament will wrap up Saturday, with bracket play beginning at 9 a.m. and bracket championship games taking place at 10:30 a.m. (Bronze), 12 p.m. (Silver) and 1:30 p.m. (Gold) at the Chickasha Sports Complex.
