OKLAHOMA CITY – After winning three consecutive meets, Chickasha’s swimmers competed at the large and competitive Joe Stocker Invitational Saturday at the OCCC Aquatic Center.
The seven-man team went into the 6A-loaded meet with realistic expectations, and basically, to get some experience for the state meet in February.
“We do not go to Joe Stocker to win as a team,” Chickasha coach Terri Gallaway said. “With teams such as all of the Edmond schools, Broken Arrow and Putnam City Schools, it would be hard to win the meet with seven boys. We go for experience in the pool since that is where state is.”
The relay team (Braeden Cochran, Grant Snedeker, Isaac McKnight and Christian Lindner) placed seventh in both the 200 Yard Medley relay and the 200 Yard Freestyle relay, improving its time in the Freestyle.
Daniel Freeman couldn’t swim Saturday due to an injury, but the coach has been shuffling her relay lineups the past couple of meets and has had good success.
“One more time, I mixed up the relays and both relays swam state qualifying times,” Gallaway added.
“That means we add Christian Lindner to the list of qualifiers since the relay made state qualifying time with him swimming on it.”
Individually, McKnight won the 100 Yard Freestyle and placed second in the 100 Yard Backstroke.
Snedeker and Cochran both just missed qualifying for state in the 50 Yard Free, Snedeker by about 3/4 of a second and Cochran by 15/100ths of a second, a new personal best time for the senior. Cochran also placed ninth in the 100 Yard Back and Snedeker was 13th in the 100 Yard Breaststroke.
Lindner took 19th in the 100 Yard Breast and 34th in the 200 Yard Free with new personal best times in both events.
Dylan Dawson placed 25th in the 100 Yard Free and 31st in the 200 Yard Free with a new personal best time.
Cash Carver was 38th in the 100 Yard Free with a new personal best time and placed 45th in the 50 Yard Free. Russell Jobe placed 15th in the 100 yard Back and 33rd in the 100 yard Free.
Chickasha will host Mustang, Ada and Byng Thursday at the USAO pool in their final swim of the first semester. Racing starts at 5:15.
