The late Wayland O'Neal was inducted into the Chickasha High School Hall of Fame on Friday night, as his family and friends gathered to celebrate his storied life and career.
Between the boys and girls basketball games between the Chicks and Noble, O'Neal's wife, Verna O'Neal, was presented with the Hall of Fame plaque by Athletic Director Yohance Brown.
Harley Day also spoke at the ceremony, recounting memories of O'Neal and saying that the night was one of the best of his life.
Wayland O'Neal was born on August 2, 1937, and passed away on October 3, 2010.
O'Neal graduated from Chickasha High School in 1955, where he was one of the best basketball players in Chickasha High School's history.
He went on to play college basketball at Oklahoma State University, and graduated from the university with a Bachelor's of Science in Geology and Industrial Engineering.
O'Neal served in the army as a 1st Lieutenant, and also worked for the Mobil Oil Corporation in Dallas, Texas.
O'Neal was born to Millard and Travilla O'Neal, and is survived by his wife, Verna, and his two sons, Tate and Ty O'Neal.
