CHICKASHA —
Chickasha’s volleyball team turned a much-needed corner at Mt. St. Mary’s Thursday but still came up short, losing on the road in four tough games.
The Chicks lost games one and two by identical 19-25 scores and then came back for a 25-23 win in game three. They dropped game four 23-25 for their tenth match loss of the year.
“We came out a little flat again,” Chickasha coach Nancy Waters said, “and we made a couple of mistakes at the wrong times like we’ve been doing in game two.
“But we cut down on the mistakes and fought our way through it for the first time this season. I’m not happy we lost, but I’m very pleased with the way we fought back and played.”
They played during the worst part of the bad weather as it hit south Oklahoma City, and the coach said it was so loud with the rain and hail pounding on the metal roof you “couldn’t hear a thing.”
“I was yelling as loud as I could during the timeouts," she said. "It was bad.”
Will’Eisha Irby had a good night at the net with five kills and seven blocks and Dawn’Shaye Blakes also had a good night up front with six kills and four blocks. Blakes also led the Chick serving with seven aces.
Kali Gann had a good all around night with three aces, five kills, nine digs and a block. Setter Hailey Angle finished with 11 assists, three aces, two kills, one block and six digs.
The Chick back line played well. Libero Taycee Seibold also finished with nine digs, Ashlee Hammons had seven and Shelby Crosley had five.
The JV team lost in straight games 16-25 and 19-25.
