Former Fightin' Chick honored for academics

CHICKASHA —

Chickasha native Braden Cook was honored for his academic success as a Connors State baseball player earlier this summer.

Cook received the National Junior College Athletic Association Pinnacle Award for Academic Excellence during the 2011-2012 school year, putting him among the 1,680 student athletes that qualified for the honors out of almost 60,000 junior college athletes. He had a 4.0 grade point average for the year.

In his two years at Connors State, Cook played infield for the baseball team, which posted a 33-23 record during his sophomore season in 2012.

Cook plans to attend the University of Oklahoma in the fall, where he will major in Petroleum Engineering. He is the son of Tim and Jackie Cook, and the brother of Maddie Cook.

As a student at Chickasha High School, Cook played baseball for the Fightin' Chicks, and carried a 4.0 grade point average all throughout high school.

Information from the Connors State College website was used in this report.
