CHICKASHA —
The USAO women’s soccer team lost to Oklahoma Baptist University at home in the second round of the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament Monday, ending the Drovers’ season.
The Drovers end the season with a record of 11-7-1. OBU advanced to the tournament finals with the 4-1 win over USAO, and improved its record to 9-7-1.
“It was a good year for the ladies, a bad day, but a good year,” head coach Jimmy Hampton said after the game. “I am proud of them and will miss my senior class.”
Oklahoma Baptist scored its first goal just 9:23 into the game, when Paula Vicenzo scored on an assist by Elisa Brito.
The Bison put the game out of reach with two more goals in the last 20 minutes of the first half. Mackenzie Bruton scored on a one-on-one, assisted by Ailee Pewitt in the 42nd minute and Pewitt scored OBU’s third goal on an assist from Vicenzo with 2:07 remaining until halftime.
Kelli Korleski scored an unassisted goal with 14:42 left in the game, but OBU returned their lead to three goals just ten minutes later with a goal by Brito, assisted by Shelbie West.
USAO had plenty of opportunities to score. The Drovers had five corner kicks and nine shots on goal in the game. Oklahoma Baptist only had one corner kick and 10 shots on goal. The two teams were tied with 21 total shots each.
USAO goalie Brooke Worcester had six saves, and Oklahoma Baptist goalie Shannon Griffith had eight.
