Lady Chicks start regionals with two big victories

CHICKASHA —

The Lady Chicks softball team conquered Shawnee in their second game in the regional tournament Thursday night at Elkouri Field.

Finishing the game 13-2, the Lady Chicks now have two wins under their belt in the tournament.

Even with two big wins in one day, head coach Dennis Furr isn't worried about his team's work rate and energy.

"That's what we talked about after the game," Furr said. "We have to play and win another game, and those runs don't carry over. I don't think I'm going to have any trouble firing them up."

Kelsi Gore went 3-for-4, with two RBIs.

Kieley Clift, Amanda Bradford, and Tawn Neidy all went 2-for-4.

"We did struggle early with the strike zone," Furr said. "Maybe it was a little nerves, but she had a big hit in the first inning and she was amped up. But after that we didn't really struggle with the strike zone. She's been really good all year. I haven't seen her walk three girls in a game and she walked three girls in an inning, so I'm pretty sure she'll be good."

Chickasha's next game will be on Friday at 2 p.m. at Elkouri field.

There is a fine line between parenting and coaching. Sure, sometimes they end up crossing paths. I, for one, learned many life lessons in sports, and that's probably why I want to work in that area. But for the most part, they are separate, and it should stay that way.
