Chicks stay undefeated in duals

BLANCHARD, Okla. — The Chickasha High School wrestling team competed in two duals Thursday night at Blanchard High School, winning both by large margins.

The Fightin' Chicks beat Newcastle 58-3 in the first dual of the night, and then beat an extremely shorthanded Blanchard team 66-6.

Because the Lions' football season just ended a week ago with the state championship, none of the football players have joined the team.

DJ Warner started the Newcastle dual off against Kyler Pierce at 106 pounds. Pierce took an early lead with a takedown, and led 3-2 at the end of the first period.

Neither wrestler scored in the second period, but Warner won the match with a takedown and a near fall in the third period to win 7-3.

Lamar Neff got down early in the first period, getting taken down twice in the 113-pound match against Rasawn Gordon. Neff got a takedown in the second period to pull within a point, but eventually lost 4-3. It was Chickasha's only match loss of the dual.

There was no match at 120 pounds, as neither team entered a wrestler at that weight.

Dakota Resendez earned a major decision victory over Cody Matthews, winning 13-2 at 126 pounds.

David Eakers took a 7-2 lead in the first period before winning by fall over Chandler Cummings at 132 pounds.

At 138 pounds, Denver Calhoun shut out Gage Cleveland in a 7-0 regular decision win.

Triston Hill (145) and Coy Richardson (152) each won by first-period falls. Bubba Wright (160) and Riley Williams (170) both won by forfeit.

Sam Richardson (195) pinned Colton Kennedy in the first period, and Jacoby Brown went up 18-4 before pinning heavyweight Dustin Freeman in the final match.

Neither Newcastle nor Chickasha had a wrestler at 220 pounds.

The Blanchard dual went by even more quickly than the one against Newcastle.

The Lions had to forfeit at 106, 113, 120, 138, 160, 170 and 195 pounds. The first match was at 126 pounds, where Caleb Keith pinned Chickasha's Jordan Molder 1:19 into the first period for Blanchard's only win.

Calhoun wrestled Logan Swaner at 132 pounds, but trainers could not get Swaner's nose to stop bleeding, leading to an injury default win for Calhoun in the first period, although the match was tied at 6-6 at the time.

Hill beat Cedric Sturdivant 6-0 at 145 pounds. Coy Richardson won 6-2 over Makia Hurley.

Latham pinned Wyatt Upchurch 1:20 into the first period for a six-point fall victory at 182 pounds, and Brown pinned heavyweight Chase Stinson 1:14 into the first period of his match.

Now 4-0 in duals this season, Chickasha will finish up the month tomorrow at the Anadarko Invitational tournament. After that, the Fightin' Chicks will be off from competition until the Pauls Valley Invitaitonal on Jan. 4-5.
