OKLAHOMA CITY —
The Chickasha High School girls basketball team blew out the Western Heights Lady Jets quickly in the first quarter, and was able to rest its starters for most of the game.
The Lady Chicks won the game 54-25 at Western Heights, and are now 4-2 after their third-straight win.
Western Heights led 5-3 early on in the first quarter, but Chickasha went on a 27-0 run that started in the first quarter and went into the second quarter, and that was the game.
Kieley Clift, who was averaging 10 points per game before Tuesday's contest, scored 11 in the first quarter and finished with 18 in the game.
"They scored five points on us before we woke up and kind of got adjusted to the game, and I don't think they scored again the rest of the quarter," head coach Christy Edelen said. "Our defense improved, which gave us some really easy baskets, and it was contagious at that point, getting touches and getting out and scoring."
Clift was the only Chickasha player in double figures, but plenty of other Lady Chicks scored.
Dominique Golightly had seven points, Hannah Slaton and Brooklin Burns had six points each, Alex Stewart had four, Maddy Irving scored three, Taylor Sylvester and Jackie Ramos scored two each, and Kelsi Gore and Hanna Fergason scored one each.
Chickasha has a couple of tough games coming up going into the winter break. Friday, the Lady Chicks will play at Elgin, and then will host Anadarko on Tuesday, Dec. 18.
"Our next week is extremely tough," Edelen said. "Both of those games are really hard. We're going to have to have good practices, especially Thursday and Friday."
Chickasha lost to Elgin at home earlier this season, and Anadarko is ranked No. 1 in class 4A.
"You're looking at two of the best teams in 4A, possibly," Edelen said. "You know with Anadarko you are. That's a tough draw on your last game before Christmas. Hopefully we'll be able to go out there and compete and use it as a positive throughout the break."
