Six small earthquakes shake Central Oklahoma
For the second time in less than a week, six small earthquakes have been recorded in a single day in central Oklahoma.
The Oklahoma Geological Survey said the six earthquakes on Saturday ranged from preliminary magnitudes of 1.5 to 3.3. -
Charge dropped against Oklahoma State player
A possession of a controlled substance charge has been dismissed against Oklahoma State safety Victor Johnson but he still faces accusations of obstructing a police officer and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Court records show the misdemeanor count was dropped Wednesday and an Oct. 18 disposition hearing was scheduled for the remaining charges. -
Ex-Army analyst from Oklahoma arrested at airport
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A former U.S. Army analyst from Oklahoma was arrested in Minneapolis while trying to board a one-way flight to China with electronic files containing a restricted Army field manual, authorities said Friday.
Federal prosecutors said Liangtian Yang, 26, also known as Alfred Yang, of Lawton, Okla., allegedly was carrying multiple data storage devices when he was arrested Thursday at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. -
Groups say coal-ash site in Oklahoma tainting water
TULSA (AP) — Three environmental groups say a coal-ash disposal site in Oologah is contaminating groundwater in the area.
A report released Thursday by the Environmental Integrity Project, Earthjustice and the Sierra Club say the groundwater under American Electric Power-Public Service Co. of Oklahoma's Northeastern Station is contaminated with has arsenic and heavy metals. -
Former Land Office auditor admits to embezzling funds
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A former auditor for the Commissioners of the Land Office in Oklahoma pleaded guilty Friday to 174 counts of embezzlement that accused him of stealing more than $1 million from the state agency.
Roger Q. Melson Jr., former director of audit for the agency's royalty audit division, entered the guilty plea during a brief appearance before Oklahoma County District Judge Kenneth Watson, who set sentencing for Nov. 9. Melson was scheduled to go to trial on the charges on Monday. -
Murder charge against pharmacist to stand
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — An Oklahoma County judge has denied a motion to dismiss a first-degree murder charge against a pharmacist in the shooting death of a teenage would-be robber.

Doak wins Republican nomination, will face incumbent Holland in November

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Longtime insurance agent John Doak of Tulsa defeated former Insurance Commissioner John Crawford of Oklahoma City on Tuesday for the Republican nomination for state insurance commissioner.
Grady County voters overwhelmingly supported Doak, as he carried the majority of precincts. The unofficial certificate of votes report from the Grady County Election Board show Doak had 845 votes to Crawford’s 294. -
Ticks thrive in tornadoes, floods and heat
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Nature's bloodsuckers can thrive through tornadoes, floods and the sticky heat that is so grueling to humans.
When a tornado raked a wooded area near Okemah on May 10, it apparently picked up ticks crouched on the bark and leaves and dropped them when the twister hit a cattleman's vacant homestead house. -

Missing Logan County man found dead,
three arrested
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (AP) — A missing Logan County man has been found dead and three people are in custody on murder complaints in the case.
Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Jessica Brown says 54-year-old Charles Dutton was found dead Saturday morning in southeastern Oklahoma City. She says Dutton was reported missing about noon Friday. -
Police searching for man who drove off in van
A warrant was issued for an Oklahoma City man charged with taking a van he claimed to be interested in purchasing.
