OKLAHOMA CITY – A Chickasha woman will serve 10 months in federal prison for embezzlement from the Apache Tribe's Vocational Rehabilitation Program.
Althea M. Wauahdooah, 34, was sentenced Tuesday by United States District Judge Stephen P. Friot.
Wauahdooah, an Apache tribal member, was employed as an administrative assistant for the Apache Tribe’s Vocational Rehabilitation Program. The Program received federal funding in excess of $10,000 to provide services for tribal members.
From August of 2006 through February of 2007, Wauahdooah submitted vouchers and memos with requests for program funds in the names of fictitious clients to obtain funds for personal expenses and expenses of friends.
As part of her plea, Wauahdooah admitted that she misused Program funds for personal use.
In addition to the 10-month sentence, Wauahdooah was ordered to serve three years of supervision following her release and to pay $29,611.32 in restitution to the Apache Tribe of Oklahoma.
Wauahdooah was ordered to report on February 11, 2010, to the Bureau of Prisons to begin serving her sentence.
These charges are the result of an investigation conducted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Teresa Black.
