TYLER, TX – USAO’s baseball team made it a three-game sweep at Texas College over the weekend, winning both ends of a Sunday double-header to close out the pre-season series.
The Drovers opened the weather-delayed set with the Red River Conference Steers on Saturday with a 10-1 win, then took two on Sunday afternoon.
Senior catcher Luke Krobath, who had three RBIs on Saturday, had the hot bat again in game one, driving in five runs to lead the Drovers to a 15-7 victory. Junior infielder Josh Moore drove in five more in the nightcap as USAO capped off the series, 14-3.
Sophomore right-hander Caleb Martin got the game one win in five innings’ work, allowing three runs on four hits, walking one and striking out four.
Krobath went 3-for-5 with a home run, five ribbies and scored twice to ignite the offense. Sophomore infielder Andrew Reyes, the third part of the school’s British Columbia connection, went 2-for-5 and drove in three runs and David Masters was 1-for-three with an RBI.
(Krobath and junior outfielder Jake Dunbar, the other hitting star in Saturday’s win, also hail from B.C.)
Newt Compton threw five innings for the 14-3 win in game two, giving up seven hits, striking out five and walking one.
Moore, from Watonga, pushed five runs across on a 3-of-6 outing, including a double. Connor Bridgman had two solo home runs and junior outfielder Greg Ylda doubled in a run and scored three times.
This weekend’s home openers with Peru Sate University have not been scrapped officially at press time but are very questionable.

Durant, Westbrook lead Thunder over Blazers in OT
PORTLAND, Ore. — After two straight losses — one to Utah at home and another to the Los Angeles Clippers the night before — the Oklahoma City Thunder weren't going to give up against the Portland Trail Blazers.
Shaking off their fatigue, the Thunder overcame a double-digit second-half deficit to beat the Blazers 107-106 in overtime on Thursday night.
Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook each had 28 points and 11 rebounds in the victory.
"We needed it a lot," said Durant. "It's kind of like a monkey off our back once the buzzer ended it. It's a good win for us." - More State Sports Headlines
