Dominators hold open house

CHICKASHA — The Chickasha FIRST Robotics Team, the Cockadoodle Dominators, had their open house on Nov. 27.

The open house gave members of the community a chance to learn about the local FIRST Robotics teams.

The 2012 FIRST Lego League project was "Senior Solutions," which asked the teams to solve a problem facing senior citizens. The Chickasha teams aimed to solve issues that senior citizens have with the new polycart system, according to Zack Doughty, of the Cockadoodle Dominators.

The Lego Heads lego group proposed a solution for Pat Cunningham, Grady County Historical Society Director. Cunningham had a real-world problem with placement of the polycart. While in reality, the City of Chickasha helped solve her issue, the Lego Heads' robot-inspired idea is worth noting.

In the lego-robot world, a motor attached to a windmill attached to a gear and rubber band pulley system, pulled the polycart around to the front of the lego house.

The FIRST Robotics Kickoff is Jan. 5. On that day, the teams receive their supplies and instructions, then the six week countdown begins to build a robot to compete in the FIRST Robotics Competition.
