The Alex High School football team is 7-1, and it isn't hard to see why when looking at the Longhorns' season statistics.
Alex has averaged 50 points per game this season, with its lowest scoring total coming in the Longhorns' only loss, a week three 34-30 loss to Fox.
The offense is powered by a running game that features five extremely effective running backs that have over 200 yards rushing already this season.
The leading running back is Reese Mitchell, a 6-3, 175-pound senior who also plays linebacker on defense.
Mitchell has 660 yards and 11 touchdowns on 81 carries, an average of 8.1 yards per carry.
Not far behind is quarterback Jose Ochoa, who has 576 yards and 12 touchdowns on 78 carries.
The other three backs contributing significantly to the rushing attack are Kyler Thornburg (29 carries, 334 yards, four touchdowns), Michael Wilcox (28 carries, 303 yards, four touchdowns) and Andrew McBride (26 carries, 265 yards, three touchdowns).
As a team, Alex is averaging 8.2 yards per carry and 279.9 yards per game. The Longhorns' defense is only giving up 3.9 yards per carry to opponents for 172.8 yards per game.
Alex has two games left this season, and has already exceeded its win total from last year's 5-5 season.
Friday, the Longhorns will host Cyril. The final game of the season will be Nov. 2 at Macomb High School.
