Georgia recruit enrolls at Oklahoma State

— Oklahoma State football coach Mike Gundy announced Monday that Naim Mustafaa, a defensive end from Alpharetta, Ga., enrolled in school and will practice with the Cowboys this spring.

“Naim is a big-time defensive end who can rush the passer and is very athletic,” OSU co-defensive coordinator Glenn Spencer said. “He has a very high motor and is a competitor. He uses his hands very well. He is a quiet person by nature, but he turns it up when he’s on the field.”

Mustafaa, a 6-foot-4, 235-pound end, is a four-star prospect by ESPN.com and Scout.com and three-star recruit by Rivals.com. He had 45 tackles as a senior and added six sacks and a forced fumble.

The Georgia recruit has a connection with the OSU coaching staff — his father played seven seasons in the NFL and was a teammate of OSU co-defensive coordinator Glenn Spencer at Georgia Tech. Mustafaa cited OSU’s defensive scheme and the school’s business major as two of his reasons for choosing the Cowboys.

Mustafaa’s early enrollment comes after the addition of Trinity Valley CC offensive lineman Brandon Garrett and Arizona Western CC defensive end Sam Wren, who enrolled at OSU for the spring semester, as well.

“We certainly need some defensive ends because we’re graduating three good players and we need someone who can come in and impact us right away and we feel Sam Wren can give us that,” Gundy said. “The same thing on the other side of the ball - we need some impact at offensive line. We’ve got to have guys that can come in and start the season at least as a backup and then work in as they pick up the system. That’s really what you’re looking for in these two-year guys.

“Brandon Garrett is getting bigger and stronger and really should be able to help us in our run game and in the pass, because he’s got good feet. Wren, we’re expecting him to be a third-down pass rush guy to start until he gets going.”
