Biggest loser entry deadline draws near

CHICKASHA — This Sunday marks the deadline to sign up for Chickasha's Biggest Loser Competition.

Assistant Chief of Police Major Elip Moore is running the weight loss program.  The participants will be encouraged to get healthy and lose as much weight as they can and the winning prizes may be worth all those sweat and tears.

Three sponsors have made the motivation to win that much better this year. Kay's Flowers has provided a $300 cash prize to the third place winner. Sooner Nutrition is sponsoring a trip for the second place winner and Primal Nutrition is sponsoring the grand prize, a trip for two. Although the specific details of the trip haven't been set in stone, once they are officially decided they will be announced.

"Last year we had two contestants who battled it out for first place right up to the wire," Moore said. "They both did an incredible job. As proud as I was of the winner, Shelby Ross, I was heartbroken for the second-place finisher. She transformed her life we didn't have a trip to award to her. I am thrilled we had local businesses step up so we can make sure the top three finishers get great prizes."

According to Major Elip Moore, eight teams and 117 people have signed up to participate in this year's competition.

Participants need at least five people to join a team and a team leader must be selected. Once a team name is established, all e-mail addresses, team member names, and phone numbers are to be sent to blchickasha@gmail.com

"We encourage people to make teams," Moore said. "If you're part of a team from work or with friends, it's easier to get motivated. If you don't have a team and need one, Primal Nutrition has an open team."

Last year's winner Shelby Ross lost 66 pounds, more than 27 percent of her body weight. She received a grand prize of a cruise to Cozumel. Ross is this year's co-caption for the 2013 event.

"Biggest Loser gave me my life back," Ross said. "I couldn't really play with my kids because I would get out of breath. We would go to the park and I would sit and watch them instead of play with them."

Ross explained the competitiveness kept her going through out the competition. She anticipates the final results of this year's competition.

The last day to sign up for the Biggest Loser is this Sunday, Jan. 27. Moore encourages the community to not put off getting into shape a moment longer.

"You only have on life to live," Moore said. "Make a decision to do something great. Something that will make a difference for you for the rest of your life. It's time to get off the fence and commit."
