Local singer to serenade couples tonight at BJ's

CHICKASHA — Drake King, a singer-songwriting student at USAO, will be sweetening up Valentine's Day at BJ's Pizza tonight from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

This isn't King's first local gig. He performed at last year's Droverstock. King will bring his acoustic guitar into the newly renovated pizza joint to give local residents a chance to eat freshly-made pizza and to hear some songs they may know.

"I will be performing both originals and covers," King said. "I'm going to try to have a good mixture."

Some of the bands he has covered in the past include Eli Young Band, Coldplay and Hank Williams Jr.

King, a political science major, hopes to one day live off his love of music.

"I'm from a small town in Southeastern Oklahoma with the dreams of living off of my music," King explained. "I was referred by Chanel Lantz, and went in to show them my material."

BJ's Pizza managers liked King's music so they offered him the Valentine's Day gig.

"I would describe myself as a soft rock artist who sings about my life experiences," King said. "Good and bad."

If listeners like what they hear, CD's will be available for purchase. The $10 CD offers sixteen songs.

Alberto Flores, originally from Mexico, opened BJ's Pizza three years ago with his wife. Recently, BJ's underwent a large expansion to offer more seating. BJ's Pizza is located at 208 Hillburn Street.
