Parkinson, Sansford earn more honors

CHICKASHA — Adding to their lists of awards this season, Scott Parkinson and Perry Sansford were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-America team on Tuesday.

Parkinson, who was named as USAO men’s soccer first NAIA All-America First Team earlier this month, was named to the NSCAA First Team, while teammate Perry Sansford was named NSCAA Third Team.

The players join Coach Jimmy Hampton, who was named the NSCAA All-Region Coach of the Year last week.



Scott Parkinson

Parkinson, a junior defender, has earned nearly every honor a soccer player could receive after a stellar season anchoring the back line that allowed just 11 goals all season and earned 11 shutouts.

This year, Parkinson has been named an NAIA All-America First Team recipient, a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete, Sooner Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year and All-SAC First Team.

This is the second year in a row Parkinson has been named a NSCAA All-American, having brought in third team honors last year. Also in 2011, he was named NAIA All-America Third Team, SAC Defensive MVP, and he earned All-Conference Second Team honors as a freshman.

While Parkinson plays defense for the Drovers, he scored USAO’s only goal in a 1-1 tie against Oklahoma City in the SAC Tournament and helped out with two assists this season, including one on the game-winning goal in the NAIA Men’s Soccer National Championship Opening Round, which the Drovers went on to win 2-0.

As a team, the Drovers recorded just one loss, which was in the NAIA Men’s Soccer National Championship Second Round.

He is from Liverpool, England, and is the son of James and Susan Parkinson.

Perry Sansford

Also a junior, Sansford was named NSCAA All-America Third Team after leading the Drovers with 15 goals on the season.

Sansford not only led the 2012 Drovers, but also the Sooner Athletic Conference in goals and was named both SAC Most Valuable Player and Offensive Player of the Year.

Earlier this month, Sansford was named an NAIA All-America Third Team member.

One-third of his goals this season were game-winners, putting him 14th in the NAIA in game-winning goals. He ranks 37th in the NAIA in total goals.

In two years at USAO, Sansford has had 27 goals, seven assists and 11 game-winners. He is tied for second in the USAO history books in game-winners.
