Local theater prepares for last Twilight film, fans

CHICKASHA — The Chickasha Chief Drive-In is hosting its biggest event of the year. Hoping to attract hundreds of packed cars with viewers of all ages, the Egbert family expects a full house at tonight's Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2 premiere.

Twilight fans will bid a sentimental farewell to their favorite characters Bella, Edward, Jacob and the rest of the gang in the final movie in the Twilight series. The book and movie franchise has grown immensely, has sparked a vampire loving phenomenon.

Barbara Egbert and her family do things a little differently than other theaters premiering the film. According to Egbert, the Chief doesn't sell any advance tickets. This gives customers the opportunity to just line up on a first come, first serve basis. Other theaters like the Warren in Moore and Bricktown 16 in Oklahoma City are sold out opening night.

Not only will the historic outdoor theater give viewers an alternative way of seeing the film, they will also give viewers a little more.

"We will also be showing Breaking Dawn Part One," Egbert said.

For the price of $7, viewers will get to see the last Twilight movie, as well as the brand new one.

"I love going to Twilight premiers at the drive-in because my friends and I can talk about the movie and be ridiculous and no one cares," moviegoer Jennifer Covington said. "We are outside, so we aren't being distracting to anyone else. It's so much fun."

According to Egbert's husband Greg, the Drive-In makes their profit from the concession stand, and not just ticket sales. As usual, the Chief will offer food items such as hot dogs, hamburgers, candy and pizza. To give customers the opportunity to take home a souvenir, the Chief is selling Twilight-themed popcorn buckets and collector cups. Popcorn tubs are $7 with $3 refills. The large collector cups are $5 with $2 refills.

Starting at seven p.m., the showings will run Thursday, Friday and Saturday night. On Thursday night the second movie will show at 10:01 p.m. On Friday and Saturday night the second movie will follow directly after. Gates will open at 6 p.m.
