Blog: Christmastime and movie marathons

CHICKASHA — I absolutely love Christmas time and I love watching movies. Together, they are the perfect combination. Don't forget the hot chocolate and extra marshmallows. I have three favorite Christmas movies that have been made in the last 10 years, and they are Love Actually, Elf and The Holiday.

LOVE ACTUALLY (2003):

Love Actually is one of my favorite movies during the holiday season. It contains about a dozen loves stories tangled into one. The movie is written and directed by Richard Curtis, the same man who wrote Notting Hill and Bridget Jones's Diary. The cast is full of charming british characters and it's a delight to see all the stories unfold.

Best Line for Love Actually:

--"Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. OFten, it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husband and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends…I've got a sneaking suspicion.. love actually is all around."

ELF (2003):

I have probably seen the movie Elf a thousand times. Will Ferrell is gold in this PG-comedy about a human who is raised by an elf. This is one of those rare Christmas movies that has heart and is very charming. Elf reminds me not to be cynical.

Best Lines from Elf:

--"We elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns and syrup."

--"I passed through the seven levels of the Candy Cane forest, through the sea of swirly twirly gum drops, and then I walked through….the Lincoln Tunnel."

--"I'm sorry I ruined your lives, and crammed eleven cookies into the VCR."

THE HOLIDAY (2006):

The Holiday is one of those movies that you can watch over and over and still be entertained. It stars amazing actors like Jude Law, Jack Black, Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz. You invest in the characters and their stories and by the end of the movie you are rooting for them all.

Best lines from The Holiday:

--"Every time she does something that tells you she's no good, you ignore it. And every time she comes through and surprises you, she wins you over, and you lose that argument with yourself, that she's not for you."

--"Iris, if you were a melody, I'd use only the good notes."

--"In the movies we have leading ladies and we have the best friend. You, I can tell, are a leading lady, but for some reason you are behaving like the best friend."

--"I have another scenario for you - I'm in love with you. I apologize for the blunt delivery, but as problematic as this fact may be, I'm in love with you."
