BLOG: Diamonds in the Rough

CHICKASHA — I had the pleasure of attending the Diamonds in the Rough luncheon this past Tuesday in the USAO Ballroom. As I looked around at all the mentors that filled the tables, it made me proud to be a part of something so special.

If you didn't know, the Chickasha Public Schools Foundation organizes this yearly event for fifth grade girls. Most girls at that age have never experienced a fancy dinner in a public setting, so it was neat seeing all the young ladies dressed up and excited.

I enjoyed learning some new etiquette techniques myself and getting to laugh with the girls at my table. I also got to sit with a very sweet woman, Shannon a reporter from Chickasha Now. Her laugh is infectious.

I encourage all you women, whether you're a stay at home mother or a manager at a big business, to dedicate some time to inspire the young women in your community. I'm not sure if the CPSF host a boy's banquet, but if not that would be really neat if they started to.
