Tigers, Chicks headed to state tourney

— The Chickasha High School and Tuttle High School softball teams will both be in Oklahoma City this afternoon for the class 5A and 4A state tournaments.

The Lady Chicks (30-9) earned their way to the state tournament by beating Southeast once and Shawnee twice at their home regional last Thursday and Friday to win the regional championship.

Chickasha's first-round game in the 5A state tournament will be played against Tahlequah.

The Lady Tigers come into the state tournament with a 29-7 record, and won two straight games against Coweta in regionals to punch their ticket to ASA Hall of Fame Stadium.

The Tuttle Lady Tigers ended the season with a 32-6 record, and are ranked as the No. 3 team in class 4A.

Tuttle has continued to be successful, even after the resignation of former head coach Jerry Bates late in the season.

The Lady Tigers are now coached by Jennifer White-Stokes.

Tuttle hasn't missed a beat with the change, carrying a seven-game winning streak into the state tournament.

The Tigers' first-round matchup is against the Purcell Lady Dragons.

Purcell is the No. 6 team in 4A, and has a record of 30-9. Purcell beat Tuttle in the two teams' only game of the season, 2-1 on Aug. 27 in Tuttle.

The Lady Dragons swept through their regional by beating Broken Bow first and then taking two games from Ada.

Tuttle's game against Purcell is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. today on Field 1. If the Lady Tigers advance, they will play at noon Friday on Field 1.

Chickasha is scheduled to face Tahlequah at 3 p.m. today on Field 3. If the Lady Chicks win, they will play at 2 p.m. Friday on Field 4 against the Deer Creek/Pryor winner.
