Pocasset casino positions filled

POCASSET — Workers continue to construct Grady County's first gaming center in Pocasset, despite reoccurring delays.  In spite of all employee positions being filled and visible progress at the construction site, the Saltcreek Casino's opening date has been pushed back once again.

In June, Saltcreek planned to open by the end of the summer. That was delayed due to water issues. Then, in the beginning of August it was announced that they expected to open in November. After rain delays, it is looking as if December will be the realistic time the casino will open its doors to hungry gamers, according its official Facebook page.

Some decisions have been set in stone, though. There will be two restaurants in the casino, giving gamblers and entertainment junkies variety to curb their hunger. The first restaurant will be called the Fork Cafe and will serve meals such as country fried steak, meatloaf, fried okra and other southern comfort foods. The second restaurant will be called The Brook, but the menu has not been confirmed. Reflections, a gift shop with clothing and other merchandise will also be inside the casino.

The casino has also confirmed there will be four blackjack tables, one ultimate Texas Hold'em table, and one three-card poker table.

At the beginning of October, the Saltcreek Casino had originally scheduled six job fair days at the Grady County Fairgrounds, but due to such a high turnout, the last two days were canceled.

Karen Kaulaity, an employee at Thackerville Gaming explained her confusion with the lack of communication about the opening date on Saltcreek's official Facebook page.

"I am a transfer employee coming to Saltcreek," Kaulaity said. "We haven't heard anything about an official date for orientation or training. Because we have to get moved we need to know a date."

Kym Thompson, the casino's media contact was unavailable to respond before print time.

Despite the confusion of when staff will open its doors, the community continues to praise the casino on its Facebook page. They anticipate the day they can play their hand of luck at the Saltcreek Casino, whenever that may be.
