Drovers sweep Oklahoma Baptist at home

CHICKASHA —  

The USAO men's soccer team beat Oklahoma Baptist University at Drover Pitch on Tuesday afternoon.

The Drovers beat OBU 5-2, and are now 12-0-2 this season and 6-0 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.

Both teams went scoreless during the first half, before the Drovers exploded offensively in the second.

Stephen Owusu scored the first goal at the 64:36 mark, with an assist from Niall Burley.

Burley himself scored the second goal unassisted just three minutes later. Perry Sansford put USAO up 3-0 with a goal, assisted by Ebenezer Amoah two minutes after that.

OBU finally scored its first goal at 70:07, when Tito Silva scored an unassisted goal.

About a minute and a half later, Burley scored his second goal of the game on a penalty kick to put USAO up 4-1.

Taylor Thompson scored OBU's second and final goal at 76:25, assisted by Rodrigo Lopes.

Amoah put the finishing touches on the game with the Drovers' fifth goal, assisted by Burley at 84:35.

USAO out-shot OBU 10-4 in the first period and 14-3 in the second. Bryan Byars had three saves for the Drovers.

The USAO women also won against Oklahoma Baptist University, winning at home by a score of 4-3, and the Drover women are now 9-6 this season and 4-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.

Calli Cooper led the way with two goals and one assist. Taylor Fain had one goal, and Vanessa Yates also had one goal and one assist. Linda Addo had one assist.

OBU scored the first goal of the game eight minutes and 20 seconds into the game. At 19:35, Vanessa Yates scored on an assist by Calli Cooper to tie the game, and neither team scored for the remainder of the half.

The Drovers took the lead when Taylor Fain scored at 57:14 on an assist by Yates.

The two teams alternated goals for the next thirty minutes, before Calli Cooper scored the game-winning goal  at 86:28.

Both USAO teams are off until Oct. 25, when the women play at Lubbock Christian at 2 p.m. and the men play at 4 p.m.
