Allen's prepares for 40th anniversary, 40 days of Christmas

CHICKASHA — At Allen's Electronics, there are 40 days of Christmas this year. Beginning last week, the electronics store began its 40th Anniversary Sale, which runs for 40 days.

On Christmas Eve, a grand prize winner will be announced. The winner will get a customer's choice, $400 shopping in the store or refund on a $400 purchase within the 40 day sale, a dishwasher, a nine cubic feet deep freeze or--you guessed it--a 40 inch HDTV.

The electronics store first opened shop in 1972 and has always been located in Chickasha.

Jim Allen, owner, said that he and his wife Nadine, both came to Chickasha as teachers. Jim opened the electronics program at the Canadian Valley Technology Center and Nadine taught at Lincoln Elementary.

Allen said that Monday was the best day so far for the sale.

"Nearly everyone that came in needed a refrigerator," Allen's said, who added that he'd think that was odd if he hadn't been in the electronics business for so long.

"Tomorrow it could be televisions."

Allen's Electronics has customers from around Grady County as well as Anadarko, Oklahoma City and Norman. Allen said that a lot of the customers from these areas are previous Chickasha customers who have moved.

Allens specializes not only in electronics sales but custom work and service work such as TV hanging and wiring.

Allen said that televisions used to make up about 75 percent of their sales, but in recent years people have been buying them from the big box stores.

"So many people buy TVs because of the price, then they want us to take care of them."

Allen said that Allen's Electronics communicates with people on the factory level to find out what the best products are, even within brands.

A customer recently told Allen, "One bad thing about you selling good stuff is I don't get to see you that often."
