300th win for McPherson

CHICKASHA — The USAO men's basketball team had a tough test for its first game in more than a month.

The Drovers hosted No. 9 Rogers State University on Thursday night, and came away with a 78-71 win.

The victory improved USAO's overall record to 8-0, and the Drovers start Sooner Athletic Conference play 1-0.

Rogers State dropped to 12-3 on the season, 0-1 in conference play.

Senior guard Norris Rumph exploded for 28 points on 8 for 11 shooting, including 4 for 6 from the 3-point line. He also had four assists and four rebounds.

Kennis White and Shavon Scott were the other two Drovers in double figures with 10 points each.

The Hillcats were favored in the game, but the Drovers were able to pull off the upset and bring head coach Brisco McPherson his 300th career victory.

"[When I got here] I didn't know if I'd even win three games," McPherson said after the game, according to a USAO press release. "To be somewhere as long as I have, and to win 300, it's a great accomplishment."

Although the game was close all the way through, USAO only had to play from behind in the early minutes of the game.

Ken Holdman was Rogers State's leading scorer with 19 points. Donald Williams was right behind him with 18, and Justynn Hammond had 15.

USAO's next game is scheduled for 5 p.m. Saturday, on the road against No. 22 Oklahoma City University.
