Blog: Alex sprouts new business, community park

— The Express-Star has published a lot about the expansion of Chickasha, but our neighbors down S. Highway 81 in Alex have been experiencing some growth of their own.

Earlier this fall, the Alex Community Park took root downtown. I had the opportunity to see the park during the Alex Community Center chili cook-off. Probably the most outstanding feature of the park is the abundance of pecan trees.

The chair of the project, Allen Huffines, said that in the future, he hopes historical reenactment groups will use the space. Civil War reenactment soldiers in need of a saddle or anyone looking for a custom pair of boots can also find what they need in Alex. 4C Boot and Saddle makes custom leather goods. For boots, they'll measure your foot in five places and build a pair of custom leather boots from the inside out.

The process takes a few weeks, so while you wait, go around the corner to Callie's Shabby Chic for some last minute Christmas shopping.

So, Grady County, when you're headed down Highway 81 in search of greener pastures, take a left on Highway 19 and see what they've got planted there.
