In the Saddle with USAO defender Megan Wilkerson

CHICKASHA —

The Drover women’s soccer team still has high hopes for the season, despite a less-than-stellar start.

“It was kind of rough," sophomore defender Megan Wilkerson said. "We didn’t really get the results we wanted. It wasn’t really that we were playing bad, but we just didn’t find a way to win yet. I think we’ve finally started to click as a team.”

The Drovers got their first win on Saturday with a 4-1 rout of Lyon College, and followed that with a 3-0 shut out of Texas Wesleyan on Tuesday.

“I think everyone now is ready to go out there and get some wins,” Wilkerson said. “We are just starting to put people in the right places. Everyone is starting to really work hard. Everyone is wanting the same things now.”

Wilkerson said she still expects the season to turn out pretty good for the Drovers. They’ve set a goal to reach the bar set by the 2011 team.

“Personal goals for me are just to try to learn how to be a leader out there,” she said. “Team goals are definitely to win again, win the conference and go back to nationals again this year.”

Drover fans can watch the interview with Megan Wilkerson at 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. Friday on local Channel 18.
