Mother, daughter team bring business to town

CHICKASHA — The Shadee Palm has taken root in Chickasha

The gift shop is named after the owners, Dee Dee Crawford and Shayla Clemons, who are mother and daughter Chickasha natives.

The pair said one goal of The Shadee Palm is to give the residents of Chickasha more gift and registry options in town rather than going to Oklahoma City.

Their inventory includes baby and bridal registry gifts, home decor, clothing, accessories, OU/OSU items, furniture, candles and more.

Crawford and Clemons said they are willing to help patrons looking for a gift. Crawford specializes in home decor while Clemons specializes in accessories.

The Shadee Palm offers free gift-wrapping. They can also deliver gifts to baby or bridal showers. Gifts can be arranged on heart-shaped tables that the shop uses for the event.

Wives can set up "wish list" registries for their husbands to pick from a list of gifts that their wife has chosen. The Shadee Palm can also help with secret pal or secret sister gifts.

The Shadee Palm does not have booths, but they do have access to custom designers.

Brock Harrison of Oklahoma City, designs custom drapes and bedding. He has personally designed curtains for The Shady Palm as well as other items.

"He has a good eye for putting things together," Clemons said, who had Harrison design bedding for a round crib.

The Shadee Palm also takes orders for Glenna Shropshire of Fanzy Pantz, who makes personalized diaper baskets with the baby's name printed on the butt of the diaper.

Crawford and Clemons frequently go to trade centers and markets to look for gifts and materials for The Shadee Palm.

The Shadee Palm will have a grand opening on Sept. 22 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be a petting zoo courtesy of Tiger Safari. Crawford said there will  be store specials, refreshments and a drawing for a Shadee Palm basket valued at more than $100.

Opening a store was something that both wanted to do. They opened shop on Aug. 1. They said that business has been good so far. The building that the store is in used to be Grand Care Pharmacy before the pharmacy changed locations. A parking lot was added for the customers of The Shadee Palm.
