Shorthanded Chicks lose to Blanchard

—

Missing some of their key players due to other commitments, the Fightin’ Chicks baseball team lost two games in Blanchard on Monday evening.

Chickasha lost the first game of the doubleheader 6-5, and the lost the second game 9-1 to Blanchard High School.

“We hit the ball decently yesterday, but we’ve got a bunch of people out,” head coach Brad Gore said. “We’ve got some 8th graders playing up with us.”

Chickasha lost the first game of the night in the last inning, when Blanchard scored the go-ahead run on an error. Mario Medina started and pitched a complete game in the one-run loss.

In the second game, Chickasha didn’t play as well. Ryker Steelman started the game, and Hayden Johnson pitched some in relief.

“We had a couple of young guys out there and they didn’t throw many strikes,” Gore said.

Gore said despite the losses, he isn’t discouraged by how the team has played. He said the young players are gaining experience and playing hard.

Chickasha begins play in the Chickasha Tournament on Thursday, and the tournament will run through Sunday.
