Three Sooners on Walter Camp watch list

NORMAN, Okla. —

Oklahoma tied for the nation's lead with three student-athletes on the Walter Camp Award preseason watch list The Walter Camp Football Foundation announced Friday. Tony Jefferson, Landry Jones and Kenny Stills were all placed on the watch list for the award presented annually to the nation's most outstanding player.

The three are a part of 50 total on the watch list as OU joins Kansas State and USC as the only programs with three players on the list. With Friday's announcement, 10 Sooners have now accounted for 22 mentions on national college football awards preseason lists. Friday's lists marks Jefferson's fourth this preseason and the third for both Jones and Stills.

Already on the Maxwell and Davey O'Brien Awards lists, Jones leads the NCAA with 12,379 career passing yards and 93 career touchdowns. The Artesia, N.M., native enters the season tied with current OU running backs coach Cale Gundy (1990-93) for most career starts by a quarterback at OU with 37 and is just three wins away from tying Steve Davis (1973-75) for the OU career victories record of 32 wins.

Joining Jones on the Maxwell Award list and also a watch list candidate for the Biletnikoff Award, Stills started all 11 games that he saw action in last season, earning All-Big 12 second team honors after finishing the year with 61 receptions for 849 yards and eight touchdowns. The Encinitas, Calif., native crossed the 1,000-yard receiving mark last season against Texas with his 77th career reception, becoming the second-fastest Sooner to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark behind Ryan Broyles (69 receptions).
