Fire starts in Chickasha Water Treatment Plant

CHICKASHA — A fire blazed prior to noon today in a settle basin of the Chickasha Water Treatment Plant.

Chickasha Fire Department Chief Greg Gibson said the fire will not affect any of the city's water for drink or other use.

He said employees in the basin were using a cutting torch to make a few modifications when plastic tubing caught on fire.

Although smoke plumed high in the air, Gibson said there was no major damage to the structure.

"It looked a lot worse than it was," he said.

Gibson said the water treatment plant's staff told him they had been making modifications in this basin for some time.

More details on this story as it develops.
