Five Drovers score double-figures in conference win

CHICKASHA — The No. 23 Drovers snapped their streak in a 78-72 conference victory over Wayland Baptist at home on Thursday night.

Dominating much of the first half, the Drovers (9-4, 2-3) worked their way up to a 19-point lead in the first 15 minutes of play. They went into halftime leading 37-26.

Not content to give up, the Pioneers came out fighting in the second half, tying the score seven minutes later. The Drovers responded with an adjustment and rally to grab the lead back and hold onto it until the clock hit 00:00.

The Drovers, who led nearly the entire game against the Pioneers, had five players scoring in the double digits. Norris Rumph led the pack with 17 points, four assists and three steals.

Junior Jahseth Lloyd had 14 points and led the team in rebounds with seven in the game while Kennis White had another 12 points for USAO.

Brandon Cutler, a senior from Lawton, had 11 points and Dejuan Lofton shot 50 percent in the game for 10 points. Lofton also had six assists.

The Drovers had more depth in the game, with 27 of their points coming off the bench, as compared to Wayland Baptist’s three. The Drovers also capitalized better off turnovers, scoring 26 to WBU’s 19 immediately following these possession changes.

As a team the Drovers had little trouble hitting buckets. USAO shot nearly 50 percent from the field, 47 percent from beyond the arc and 90 percent from the charity stripe.

They move on to play Lubbock Christian at home at 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon. It’s Teacher Appreciation Day and local and area teachers will get into the game for free. USAO’s Biology and Associated Science and Women in Science clubs will host the game.
