Blanchard and Alex stay undefeated; Minco loses

The Alex High School football team used a balanced offensive attack to get a comfortable win over Paoli at home Friday night.

The Longhorns beat Paoli 58-22, and now have started their season off at 2-0.

Quarterback Jose Ochoa and running back Reese Mitchell combined for most of Alex's rushing yards.

Ochoa ran six times for 83 yards and two touchdowns, with a long run of 39 yards. Mitchell rushed for 75 yards on 14 carries and two touchdowns.

Kyler Thornburg added 37 yards on seven carries.

Ochoa and Dalton Alcorn split the passing duties. Alcorn went 5-for-18 with 133 yards and three touchdowns, and Ochoa was 3-for-7 with 32 yards and one touchdown.

The Alex quarterbacks spread the ball around, with five different receivers catching passes for the Longhorns. Zach Mainka had three catches for 32 yards. Cody Alexander had two catches for 41 yards and a touchdown.

Thornburg, Nate Harrington and Mitchell each had one reception and one touchdown.

Alex won the turnover battle, recovering three fumbles and getting one interception. Jacob Otey had two fumble recoveries and Michael Wilcox had one fumble recovery. Shay Hoover picked off Paoli quarterback D.J. Moore. Alex had no turnovers in the game.

Mainka led Alex with eight tackles, and also had one sack. Wilcox had 3.5 sacks and 6.5 tackles.

The Longhorns scored one touchdown in the first quarter on a three-yard run by Ochoa, before exploding for 28 points in the second quarter. Alex added 14 more points in the third and eight in the fourth, while never giving up more than one score per quarter to Paoli.

Alex is scheduled to play its first road game at 7:30 p.m. Friday against Fox.

 

Blanchard dominates

 

Blanchard High School improved to 2-0 this season with a 30-7 home win over Lindsay on the night of the Lions' homecoming.

Braden Stringer showed big-play ability, rushing for 108 yards on only seven carries, an average of 15 yards per carry. As a team, Blanchard averaged 12.4 yards per rushing attempt. Stringer had a 68-yard run, and touchdown runs of two and four yards.

Quarterback Brock Lamle ran five times for 69 yards, most of those coming on a 62-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Lamle threw for 43 yards on 6-for-14 passing with one touchdown and one interception.

Stephan Davis had 57 rushing yards on seven carries and Kyle Self had 36 yards on two carries. Tanner Foster had two receptions for 18 yards and a touchdown.

D.J. Williams caused a fumble in the end zone for a safety in the second quarter.

Blanchard scored twice in the first quarter, had a touchdown and a safety in the second quarter, and scored one last touchdown in the third. Lindsay's only points came on a fumble recovery for a touchdown just before halftime. 

Blanchard goes on the road to play the Newcastle Racers at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

 

Turnovers hurt Minco

 

Minco lost to Wayne 46-12 in week 2.

The Bulldogs gave up 27 points in the first quarter, 21 off turnovers.

Wayne returned fumbles 96 and 90 yards for touchdowns, and returned one interception for a TD.

Jacob Overton had a touchdown catch and Ringo Garrett had a touchdown run.
