Blanchard wins big over Bridge Creek

BLANCHARD —

The Blanchard Lions conquered the Bridge Creek Bobcats in its ‘Tackle Cancer’ game last night.

Finishing the game 53-8, the Lions came out strong from the first play.

Blanchard’s #10, Braden Stringer scored the first touchdown of the night four minutes into the first quarter.

Last season, Bridge Creek was 5-7 and Blanchard was 5-5.

Although last year Bridge Creek beat Blanchard 18-14 on the last-second play, this year Blanchard were clearly the better team and may challenge teams like Tuttle for playoffs and district.

The Lions were up by 47 points at half-time, but Head Coach Jeff Craig knows how important it is to stay hungry for more points and to keep improving.

“We really made it a goal this year to be more dedicated to the season. We came out hungry last year then faded down the stretch,” Craig said. “We wanted to finish this year. We wanted to stay hungry, week in and week out.”

Zach Hill made a 76-yard reception for the Lions, advancing Blanchard’s lead to 20-0 with five minutes to go in the first quarter.

Bridge Creek’s #20, Morgan Merrell wouldn’t give up fighting, scoring the Bobcats’ only touchdown of the night with 10:59 minutes left in the fourth quarter.

“We’ve got places we want to go and we’re going to try to take care of business every week,” Craig said. “Our guys are doing a great job of that, staying focused, staying within the game plan with what we’ve put together.”

The Lions forced five fumbles in last night’s game. According to Craig, their hard work is paying off.

“I thought our guys did a great job of hawking the ball and did a really good job of finding it when it was on the ground. Some of the stuff we’ve done in the preseason is paying off now. Our guys are really tuned in to what we’re trying to get done."

Blanchard’s next game is Oct. 5 at 7:30 vs. Marlow.

Bridge Creek’s next game is Oct. 5 at 7:30 vs. Tuttle.
