CHICKASHA —
GameStop, Dollar Tree, Interurban and Boomerang Grille all have plans to open locations in Chickasha soon, the Chickasha Area Economic Development Council announced Thursday.
GameStop has a tremendous variety of video games and consoles. It sells both used and new items and even has a trade-in system. Right now, the closest GameStop is located in Newcastle, around 30 miles away from Chickasha.
Chickasha residents will also see the return of Dollar Tree. In May 2011, a tornado destroyed the only Dollar Tree location in town. Dollar Tree is known for selling anything from party supplies to shampoo for $1 or less.
Interurban is a local Oklahoma restaurant chain that will bring another option for American-style food. The menu ranges from honey pepper bacon burgers to margherita pizza.
Interurban has already chosen a site to build on, according to Ryan Posey, president of the Chickasha Area Economic Development Council. The chosen site is near the Best Western on Grand Avenue.
Posey explained the location of the new business is really beneficial because it will be located in a Tax Increment Finance area.
TIF areas are typically created by a city for use as an economic development tool. Chickasha's TIF was approved for nine years, and has six years left.
The Economic Development Council contributed $50,000 for the site's prep, according to Posey.
The other restaurant coming to Chickasha is the Boomerang Grille. Its menu includes a range of hamburgers and wraps. The Boomerang Grille will be located on the south end of the Southland Shopping Center. Other businesses currently in that shopping center include Rue 21, Goodwill and Keepin' It Sweet.
Marcy Merritt from Ninnekah expressed her excitement for the new businesses on the Express-Star's Facebook page.
"The thing is, businesses come to Chickasha but they just don't stay," she wrote. "At least that's what happened in the past. Maybe this is a new dawn."
Merritt also expressed her longing for more entertainment in Chickasha.
"Now if only we had entertainment available for teens and youth," Merritt wrote. "There is the bowling alley and the skate rink, but that's about it. It would be great if some of the business folks and maybe churches had a youth service set up."
Crystal Lynn also expressed her support on the Express-Star's Facebook.
"I'm very happy about more jobs and places to shop! Just what this town needs," she said
