Fightin' Chicks hold off Tahlequah

The Chickasha High School boys basketball team won its first round regional playoff game against Tahlequah High School on Friday night in Coweta.

With the 56-53 win, the Fightin' Chicks advanced to the regional championship game at 7 p.m. Saturday at Coweta High School against the winner of the game between Coweta and Grove.

The Chickasha boys have also secured a spot in the area tournament next week.

E.J. Golightly scored 21 points to lead the team.

Joey Sylvester scored 15 points and had six rebounds. Datious Dufur had 10 points and 16 rebounds. Dakota Goombi had eight points.

Chickasha led 15-12 after the first quarter, and 31-28 at the half.

With about 10 seconds left, Golightly threw the ball away when Chickasha had a three-point lead. Tahlequah missed a 3-pointer, got the offensive rebound, and Golightly redeemed himself by blocking the next 3-point attempt.

Tahlequah had less than one second on the clock, and Chickasha deflected the inbound pass to end the game.

For the first time since 2001, both the Chickasha High School boys and girls basketball teams have advanced to the area tournament.
