Tonight's semi-annual movie in the park will feature magical film

CHICKASHA — Epworth United Methodist Church is hosting its free, semi-annual Movies in the Park event this Friday in Shannon Springs Park around 8 p.m.

At the corner of 12th and Montana, The Wizard of Oz will be shown on a giant outdoor screen. Families are welcome to bring any concessions and drinks they want, or they can purchase items from the concession bar. All proceeds made will go directly to the Movies in the Park fund. The movie is scheduled to end around 10 p.m.

There will be designated seating sections for people who bring lawn chairs, and a separate section for blankets. There will also be tents to visit with free face painting and cotton candy.

The main objective of this city wide event is to bring the community together and provide a safe family environment, Garrett Drake, executive senior pastor explained.

"The church's children's ministry department ordered the screen, the projector, the concessions - everything. And in the end, they only get about 10 percent back," Drake said.

This is Movies in the Park's second year. The first ever Movie in the Park event showed E.T. and later in the spring showed The Muppets movie.

Epworth United Methodist Church has been in Chickasha a really long time, but has recently revamped the church and it's services, according to Drake. Sunday service for the children begins at 9 a.m. and the adult worship service begins at 10:15 a.m.
